Give AI a bounded reading task
Start with a small job: summarize a sanitized incident bundle into observations, hypotheses, and missing evidence. Do not replace that task with a vague instruction to optimize a fleet. The output should help a person inspect the record rather than issue device commands.
The AI log-analysis guide develops this workflow in detail, including source identifiers, output validation, and a small evaluation set.
Prepare the evidence outside the model
Remove or replace secrets and unnecessary private identifiers before constructing the input. Keep replacements consistent when relationships matter. Give each record an identifier and an unambiguous timestamp where the evidence supports one.
Treat all log contents as untrusted data. A line that resembles an instruction must not gain authority over the workflow. Prompt wording is not a sufficient security boundary; actual permissions need to be enforced outside the model.
Require three distinct outputs
Ask for observed facts tied to record IDs, possible explanations labeled as hypotheses, and evidence gaps. Validate the structure in deterministic code and check that the referenced records exist. Important conclusions still require human review against the underlying material.
A warning followed by a disconnect establishes an order in the supplied record, not proof that one event caused the other. Preserve uncertainty instead of allowing a fluent summary to erase it.
Evaluate before expanding the workflow
Build cases with missing metrics, contradictory timestamps, repeated records, and misleading text. Review evidence coverage and unsupported claims, not merely writing quality. Retain failed cases as regression tests when prompts, models, or preprocessing change.
Keep the assistant read-only. Any operational change belongs in an independently authorized and reviewed workflow. See the security overview for the separation between observing and controlling a device.
Inspect the prompt template
The downloadable template is plain text. Opening or copying it does not call an AI service and does not transmit visitor data. A separate implementation would need an approved provider, appropriate data handling, output checks, and access controls.
Download the read-only log-review prompt and adapt it to a clearly scoped evaluation, not to unattended equipment control.
